GMU continues to be road warriors as they travel to Philadelphia to take on 13-11 Drexel, 8-4 in CAA. Drexel and GMU are both fighting for a top 4 finish and a first round by. The Dragons are 8-3 at home on the year and have won 3 straight in Philadelphia.
DU is lead by Jamie Harris and Gerald Colds, with Chris Fouch bringing an average of 10 points from the bench.
We need to get nasty for this game. Finesse players need not apply. This game will be about playing in-your-face defense, setting hard screens, boxing guys out for rebounds on both ends of the court, and knocking their players on their asses when they are driving to the rim.
I don't want to live in a world where Drexel fans think they have a good team. We dropped a tough game at GSU, so now we need to steal this one in Philly. We will be the underdog playing in their high school gym, but this game is winnable if we match their intensity.
Drexel is due for a loss. We just came off a loss. I expect us hungry and focused. Not sure what Drexel's game plan will be, since we have yet to play them. They seem to have been speeding the games up against the lower tier CAA squads, but they might slow the game down against us, and do what gstate did. Put a lot of pressure on Cam and try to make us force 3's maybe.

Re: Game #24: Drexel U
DU's home losses this year are to (RPI) #14 Rhode Island, #36 Cornell, and #51 William and Mary. We've had one loss to a team with an RPI in the triple digits since November, and that was our rivalry game at UD, which is always a game no matter how much either team sucks.
Since Leon Spencer is back, we're 4-1 with the lone loss on the road at W+M. That stretch includes a double digit win at Northeastern. If it hadn't been for Hofstra's 10 points in the last two minutes of garbage time (we were up by 23), the highest point total anyone will have had against us since Spencers return is the 57 that JMU put up when they lost to us by 21.
I don't know that DU is a great team. I do know that we're playing as well as anyone outside of NU or ODU right now, and that we're shooting the lights out (well, as much as any Drexel team can ever shoot the lights out) at home since the new year (44% from the field, 45% from 3, and chris fouch is at 64% from 3, so thanks for not getting him.) It's going to take an exceptional team to beat us at the DAC right now, and I don't think Mason is even close to exceptional to be quite honest.
Tom, I know you hate living in a world where us DU fans think we're decent. As a group, we're pretty pessimistic given our track record, which is why I still think we'll shit the bed in richmond. If this game was at Mason, I'd probably be singing a completely different tune. It's not. I really think this is a double digit win for DU. Those of you who know me know that the only smack I talk is when someone wears a scarf at inappropriate times. This isn't smack, it's simply me saying that you're running into a team that's rolling right now.

Metsox, I know you aren't talking smack. And I'm happy that Drexel's fans have a very good team to rally around. You guys deserve it, and it's nice to have some new blood at the top of the league. We know it will take a combination of us playing great and you playing poorly for us to win in your gym Saturday.
I honestly think Fouch is going to light us up. I don't know what they are feeding him or what chicks they are providing him with when in Philly, but he seems to be averaging about 142 pts per game while shooting 75% when DU plays at home. And of course he's doing this in about 10 mins worth of action.
Perhaps some exaggeration there, but guys like Lou and Ike, who have consistently been guarding some of the opposing team's best shooters, are going to need a huge effort.
I started typing up a bunch of cliches about playing hard for 40 mins, yada yada yada, but frankly, we all know that. We've all seen what our team is capable of when they come out energized and focused, even on the road. It's simply a matter of whether that team shows up.

Mason is, like last year, a tale of two teams. If the better team comes out against Drexel then we win. I actually think losing to GSU could end up being a good thing. The guys hadn't lost to anyone in CAA except NU. Hopefully that loss reminded them that nothing is easy in conference play and they have to be sharp at all times, especially with the schedule coming up.
I am inclined to agree with GCE... I think a loss against GSU is just what the dr. ordered to refocus this squad... maybe they have been reading their press clippings, I don't know... regardless of how good the coach is, when you are young it is easy to lose focus...
Hell, John Wall is the best player in the country and he is spouting off in the media and doing stupid crap... he just has the luxury of being able to lose his focus because he is a SICK basketball player...
A win at Drexel and we are back on track to secure a top four... a loss, and things get very interesting for the remaining games...
This is not your brothers Drexel team, we better come out with some intensity...
