There is a lot of talk on AGS about some northern sports caster or DJ stating that CAA Football is looking to replace NU with a school in the "New York area." The general consensus seems to be that Fordham is that school.
But how does that make more sense over another NY school, like Stony Brook?
- SB is established with scholarships. Fordham is trying to get scholarships.
- SB is in a geographically awkward conference. Fordham is in a conference that it apparently likes (except as of now it is non-scholly)
It seems to me that if I'm SB, the moment I heard NU dropping their program I would have given the CAA a phone call.
I've heard the opinions of those over at AGS, but what do CAA fans think is going to happen?

No way that Hofstra allows the CAA to add Stony Brook while it still fields a football team in the CAA as well. It would be the death knell for Hofstra football IMO.
I think that Stony Brook makes more sense long term.......but I'd bet the farm on Fordham if it is between those 2.
I don't know if adding SBU football would be the death knell for HU football, but it sure would make things interesting. The only downside of SBU football going CAA next year, they definitely won't be sharing a crown or winning the AQ like they could in the Big South. Hell, SBU could be in the playoffs as soon as next season, that isn't happening if they go CAA. That IMO hurts HU more since SBU could sell themselves as a playoff caliber program.

No way they can compete with the powerhouses of the CAA....you'll see losing seasons, dwindling interest because of that, and revenues to expense ratio that becomes more and more a glaring red.
This isn't college basketball where conferences make a lot of money from NCAA appearances and share with there conference mates. IAA is a, on paper, losing venture and a move to the CAA for Fordham will be a disaster.
For Stony Brook, now that the Big South gets an auto bid, they same competition issue is there.....why not stay in the BS and fight it out with Liberty every year for a playoff spot and face CAA teams in the playoffs instead of trying to compete with them all year long. They'll find the going tough as well, although I think they have a better chance than Fordham.
Why wouldn't they? If you were 1-AA level, had a strong football history (Vince Lombardi, etc) and wanted to upgrade, where would you look?
It helps Hofstra, which desperately needs a local rival to perk some interest, and also builds another budding rivalry with Villanova. Both are Catholic universities.
Overall, it strengthens the northern flank of the CAA, which needs it.
Btw, they were already 1-1 against the CAA, losing to URI and beating ODU. This was not a very good Fordham team.
ODU is not in the CAA for football till 2011, we're an independent. So Fordham is 0-1 against the worst in the CAA. I'm not too hot to bring in either one, what do they bring to the table.

Don't know enuff about any of the three football programs mentioned to understand why it would be the death knell for Hofstra football if Stony Brook were to become a (football) member of the C.A.A. . (?)

Reason: (football)
MJ, HU has done fine recruiting, it's the one thing that Cohen has done well. This year we had a heck of a lot of talent and by all rights should have beaten UNH, Maine and UD. Poor coaching IMO cost this team an opportunity to win the North and line themselves up for a playoff appearance.
As for fans, it doesn't matter who is near us, they won't come out. SBU being located in central suffolk is very appealing to the east end families and draws better because of it. Doesn't matter though, we're still like 13-0 against them all time and i don't see that ending next year as our team returns a slew of talent.
