Re: MBB Disappointing Analysis/Quotes
PK Opening Comment
"We were deathly fearful of this. I have two new coaches on the staff and I kept telling them what could happen if we didn't play great defense. We saw the Longwood tape and tape against LIU. I told them that this would be a totally different Navy team then what we saw on the tape, because of how we beat them a year ago. They play extremely well at home and if you don't guard them, they are going to shoot the heck out it. Every time we had a chance to make a run, they made long-range jump shots. We couldn't guard Harris tonight. Rob Nwankwo will be back for the Dayton game, after missing two games. Calvin Lee has been out of position. These two games hurt us. You hope that these early games will teach you down the road."
Starting backcourt
"We're not producing anything. Josh Brown is walk-on and his first half stats were terrific. We are committed to man-to-man defense. We have to keep working on how well we can guard people. We have to get a few more zone looks in December getting ready for the CAA. We'll get better in our man. We played it better than we played tonight. They ran very good offense."
On Chris Harris
"We even went to a 1-3 and a chaser and that's the only time he didn't score, but we couldn't score on the other end. We went to that zone and had one guy guarding him. That kind of confused them, but we couldn't score effectively on the other end of the floor."
On rebounding
"It's all team rebounding. It's like team defense. If you don't play team defense and tearm rebounding, you'll be in trouble. We've been outrebounded now in our first three games."
On Rashawn Polk
"Ray just came out and just plays. He's only sophomore. Never played in this system. He came out and make plays. He scores aggressively. He makes good decisions, rarely turns the ball over and has great hands. We had some really bad turnovers tonight. Balls going out out bounds and stuff. Getting Robert back with him will help."
On attacking the press early
"We weren't aggressive against it. As soon as we saw it, we just started standing there. We didn't attack it all. We just didn't go play. That's why we had to get those subs in as quickly as we did."
On Brewster
"I told him that you have to go make things happen. If you want to get open, you have to move. If you want to get shots, you have to shots up. If you want to make plays, you have to make plays. Josh Brown had six points in the first half and made four foul shots. He did that. It's not like we had something designed for him out of the offense. He went and made those things happen."
"I tried to explain to our guys a little bit, that we beat them in our place. This is a local game. It's like Loyola going to Mt. St. Mary's and losing by 19. Loyola beat Vermont by 14, who beat Rutgers by 7. You have to play well every night."
On Calvin Lee's struggles
"He had to guard their big kid. He's expending all his energy down the other end. He's totally out of position. We get Rob back and Erique did a nice job at the 5. He's played well the last few games."
