Default Quick Blurb from Mark Bradley about State

Me:Whats your thoughts on the upcoming Georgia State football team? Do you think Curry will do well? Also what do you think are the odds that 10 years down the road they play in a FBS conference?

    Bradley:
I think Georgia State will have a tough road, Walt. Not so much on the field — there are a lot of players in this state, and not all go to Tech or UGA — but in the marketplace. I see them facing the same struggles as UAB: A big-city program in a state where almost everyone has already picked his/her favorite team.

Interesting analogy to say the least. Thoughts?

I think he is on it. Gaining the hearts of alumns who are used to rooting for the Georgia Whatever big names schools will take time and I honestly don't think we have a lot of time to draw a sizable crowd before U exec's declare defeat and move on.

I understand his stance, but its that kind of mentality that keeps things at status quo. Some are fine with that. I think Georgia State athletics has shown they are not. We aren't either. Besides, UAB has more struggles beyond just Bama and Auburn. Legion Field is twice as far from their campus as the Dome, its old, its not fan friendly, and from what I've been told its neighborhood makes the Dome's surrounding area look like Disneyland.

We do have the advantage that unlike Birmingham we are a major US city and we will be in the Dome and not aging crumbling Legion Field. In that sense the comparison isnt apt. You have approximately 3.5 to 4 million people in Metro Atlanta that did not live here in 1980. Most of those people do not have any deep attachment to UGA or GT.

Same could be said when USF was starting. Lots of people loved neighboring FSU and UF. But, USF still made their way.

Comparing Birmingham to Atl isn't fair to me. Don't we have at least 3.5 million more people living a train ride away? A bigger city such as Tampa Bay is a better comparison and we all know what happened there w/ SF.

Mark Bradley has another GSU mention in his blog on ajc.com. He reviewed his predictions throughout the year, and his only 2010 prediction gave a shout-out to the Panthers:

Nov. 20, 2010; Tuscaloosa, Ala.: The Georgia State Panthers cap their inaugural football season by shocking the world. They score against Alabama! Three whole points!
