Default Mason Campus Development Update 10 - March 5, 2010

THIS THREAD HAS BEEN RE_TITLED BY REQUEST

I know I discuss campus development a lot and have questioned placement of buildings and how they fit the overall master plan for the main Fairfax campus.

However, the latest release of the master plan for the southwest sector of east side of the Fairfax campus now ties it all together. Quite frankly - its stunning and transformational. The admin has started on a path to make the Fairfax campus as one of the most attractive in the state of Virginia.

I have posted some of the pics for your review here. The new center of campus will be the "Oval" and will include new traffic patterns and a host of new buildings.

Here is the overhead view of the oval with the Mason Pond being at the center.

Here is the view from the courtyard at Mason Hall and the Center for the Arts:

    This plan is truly impressive.

This is good stuff, and really liked the brochure you linked to in the other thread....but serisously man, couldn't you just create a "Mason Improvements" thread and put 'em all there?
I have a son. He looks like Brian Terry.

It will change significantly by the time construction starts.

Actually, these are from the latest iteration of the master plan and very closely resembles what will be completed. The work being done next to the Phys Ed building supports the proposed traffic pattern changes, new campus entrances and is based on building designs that were included in the past two master plans.

They actually increase available parking with a combination of parking garages - including underground spots.

Two other projects that begin construction this summer are the Hotel/Conference Center and Faculty/Staff Housing:

The hotel will be convenient for out of town alumni attending Homecoming or other events at the Patriot Center in the future, as well as provide much need conference space for research conferences that Mason wants to host.

will this hotel become part of a chain (Marriott, Hilton, etc)?

will visiting sports teams be staying there? that seems like it could be a steady revenue stream.
