I don't think ODU should be able to win conference championships in any sport (and wouldn't think JMU should in the same position)..If you leave a conference and break a contract for what you think are greener pastures you shouldn't be able to reap the benefits of being affiliated with said conference.

ODU would love for both JMU and ODU to be in Conf-USA it would help travel costs in all sports and help facilitate the natural rivalries that they now lack other than ECU (who might be bouncing out of C-USA in the near future anyway).
Old Dominion administrators want UD as a conference mate. This is a known fact. State flagship. Good football, academics, and facilities.

JMU is probably a step or two down the list, but we need more upward-looking local rivals. The real question is whether JMU is seeking to grow its athletic program.

Is URI really going to compete for a CAA football title this year anyway?

Hmmmm. Glad you brought this up.

State Flagship? JMU is not, but neither is ODU...is the flagship of Delaware worthy anything? Good football? Jmu has that.. Academics? check...Facilities? Check...sounds like JMU has all but one of your critieria (the same one ODU is missing as well).

Not sure what kind of weed you're smokin saying JMU is a step down...but it sounds like something worth smoking. The only thing you got right was questioning if JMU was willing to grow it's athletic department...at this point, I'm not sure. Admin seemed pretty content with the CAA under the past admin, time will tell if the new admin feels the same.

URI and ODU are totally different situations. URI is not moving up to FBS. ODU announcing the move automatically gives them a recruiting edge over every FCS school. ODU is giving one years notice. In 2013, they will be in transition to FBS and will have too many scholarships to be eligible for FCS.

URI announced they were leaving and gave three years notice. They will be reducing scholarships over that time so that they can play in the NEC which is a step down from full scholarship FCS football. This means URI will have a disadvantage over the other CAA programs because they will be competing with less scholarships.

Dabigblue, you are comparing apples to oranges. ODU is being treated exactly the same way GSU is being treated. Both schools are full members of the CAA and both schools are transitioning to FBS. There is no way your President and AD are upset that ODU is being treated differently than URI. Your President has had more than a decade to change the rule ODU voted in favor of as they were a conference member when it was put in place.

You make yourself look really misinformed when you try to make arguments that have no basis. If JMU is invited to CUSA, we will be treated the same way ODU and GSU are being treated and all of us JMU folks will be just fine with it. We know the rules and the how they will be enforced.

I love this last part, as for most of us, this will be the case. Most of us aren't going to go on an opposing team's boards and bi.tch about the fact that we can't compete for the championships in a conference we're leaving. We tend to have a bit more class than that.

Exactly how does a perceived recruiting edge for '13 prospects affect the '12 on-field performance? Even the perceived advantage wouldn't be realized until next Fall. URI & ODU are both exiting institutions who plan to continue the sport in another conference. It's absolutely apples to apples & speaks to the hypocrisy of the league.

No. Copied & pasted from the other thread:

    "URI: (3-8/2-6)
    Starters Returning: 9 (5 offense, 4 defense)
    Key Returners
    -QB Bob Bentsen
-3rd team All CAA: LB Doug Johnson
    Key Losses
-2nd team All CAA: WR Anthony Baskerville, OL Jason Foster, DL Willie McGinnis
-3rd team All CAA: OL Kyle Bogumil

    (miss W&M & ODU)
    9/1 Bye
    9/8 @ Monmouth
    9/15 @ Villanova
    9/22 JMU
    9/29 @ Bowling Green
    10/6 Brown
    10/13 GST
    10/20 @ UD
    10/27 UNH
    11/3 @ UR
    11/10 TU
    11/17 Maine"

That looks about like 3-8/1-7. This ODU whining about a URI team that has close to zero chance of winning the CAA being able to compete for the title is ridiculous.

This thread concerns my future conference. Thus I'll opine right here. Shouldn't you be making up another conference rumor or fantasy about now? It's been at least 2 hours since the last one.
