    Default Women's lacrosse coaching search

Anybody have any insight on this and why it is taking so long? I read on the laxpower.com message boards that a couple good candidates turned us down, which if true is discouraging since you'd think Hofstra would be looked at as an attractive job with our solid facilities and location. I hope they get somebody from the outside who can give this program a revived jolt. There is no reason why we can't be a consistent top 20 program given our geography.

Could money have been the determining factor? It is expensive to live on Long Island. Otherwise it is an attractive position.

HUSID80 one problem Hofstra has is that we can match offers from other schools in the CAA but the cost of living on Long Island is higher than the southern schools. All things being equal if the pay is the same the southern schools offer is a better financial proposition.

Yeah, I mean honestly, what is the ROI from a women's lacrosse coach?

One of our assts up for the position left for the head coaching job at LIU. Hopefully it will be soon. I dont know if any of Abbys recruits have decomitted for this coming year. Would like to have the head coach in soon so he or she can prepare for the coming season.

I love the hire! Although she has no coaching experience, Smith is one of the best women's lacrosse players of all time and I could tell from watching her play in the national title game against Syracuse this past May on ESPNU that she is a natural leader who will make an outstanding coach. Smith will also make an outstanding recruiter, esp. on Long Island where she is legendary and she has already gotten a nice head start through some camps she has run the past few summers. Kudos to Hathaway on going outside the box for his first coaching hire.

Wow we hired a head coach who is right out of college with no coaching experience. Does this send up a red flag to anyone. This could turn out OK because of her Long Island roots or it could be a disaster because of her lack of experience as a coach.

She has the potential to be a superstar...sometimes you take risks, bring in an experinced assistant and she will be fine!
