While this name change did occur, both terms continue to this day to be used frequently, by all levels of sports media and fans alike. UR won the I-AA National Championship.
Either way, these terminologies should be meaningless to you because UR will be DIII soon enough, where it can compete in the ODAC with like-minded and otherwise similar schools. Is there an alternative acronym for DIII?

No but winning a DIII title is certainly more impressive than an FBS/1A championship. In fact it is the same as an FCS championship, after all both trophies say NCAA Champion on them and since they didn't actually get a chance to play each other one can only surmise that there is absolutely no distinction between the two. Trust me Rear Regent Tick will be here to remind us of that after they knock off Mary Washington in an epic title game in front of 37 screaming fans.
I have come to the conclusion that all those JMUers and ODUers who think Richmond is going D3 must be feeding their warped brains with crack. Some ODUers are so high on crack they think Mary Washington fields a football team. You all just keep dreaming and enjoy playing for spots in some obscure no name minor bowl like the weedeater bowl or tire bowl!
Looks like someone is angry that Richmond is going D3.
The cusa champion plays in the Liberty Bowl which drew a 1.8 TV rating last year. The "D1 Championship" as you like to refer to it drew a whopping 0.4 rating. give me the liberty bowl and have fun battling it out with Southern North Dakota State in the "D1 Championship".
Yes. Drugs. People from JMU and ODU are all addicts, constantly looking for that fix to get high. That is the only way we could come to the conclusion that UR will be D3, all of the cold hard facts aside.
What do you have against crack anyway? You act like it's a bad thing...

Cold hard fact....NCAA does not allow a school to be D1 in some sports and D3 in another sport. Richmond is D1 in basketball (A10) and D1 (CAA) in football. In order for UR to be D3 in football, it would have to be D3 in its other sports including basketball. UR is not going D3 in basketball. Therefore it cannot be D3 in football. These are the "cold hard facts".
I know the rules, and I am not ignorant to them. UR is going D3 for all sports. Cold hard facts...
