I've often said that UNCW's problem with fund-raising and endowments is that
UNCW doesn't have enough dead alumni yet.
Once the university has been around for more than a hundred years,
that's when the 'old' money comes in.
"New" money, from businesses, fund-raisers, new foundations, and a pool of
less than forty years of alumni, most of whom are still working, is just not
going to bring in the big bucks. It requires years and years to grow.
The best thing to do now is to ingrain into the culture that annual contributions from
NEW ALUMNI are crucial to the future of the university, and that contributing even ten dollars
a year, every year, to your alma mater is a valued way to build future resources.
Get new alumni into the habit of giving back now, and it will reap benefits in the future.
