Jmufb, I really do agree, but our linemen are in a three point stance for 20 seconds and the defense is resting on a knee. It just seems like something better could be done there.

If you get the defense in a wrong package of defensive players (Xtra CB for example) the ability to play fast puts them at a disadvantage by not allowing them to substitute or forces a timeout.

The obvious need is when your trailing as well.

Of course its not necessary to play fast all the time, or most of the time. But being able to some of the time is beneficial.

NIU was a huge tempo change team from 2010 to 2011 so figuring out how to play faster immediately , their coaching staff is a good one to look at. They were the 6th fastest speed up team from 2010 as of Week 7 last year when analyzing by time per play.

    WEEK 7 CFB 2010 DIFF
    Pittsburgh 22.10 30.34 -8.24
    Ohio 23.43 30.56 -7.13
    Maryland 21.01 27.50 -6.48
    South Florida 21.27 27.33 -6.06
    Miami (Ohio) 24.12 29.34 -5.22
    Northern Illinois 23.17 28.36 -5.19
    West Virginia 21.61 26.40 -4.79
    Wyoming 24.22 28.93 -4.71
    Nebraska 24.25 28.68 -4.42
    Mississippi State 22.88 27.12 -4.24
    Iowa 25.11 29.13 -4.02
    Iowa State 20.87 24.83 -3.96

Rarely will you ever catch a good defensive coach in bad personnel, they have guys on the sideline just to call out the personnel. Look at the teams that went to the National Championship in FCS and FBS, their offense's dont run that fast pace offense. None of that matters if you have players that play fast and efficient. And Bleed all of our lineman are very athletic and staying in that stance for that period of time doesnt bother them. NFL teams tend to use the whole play clock when running a play.
    Where is your hardware???

Year before it was Auburn vs Oregon in the National title game, you can be efficient in many different ways. LSU And Alabama were 2 of the 3 slowest teams in the country in time per play this season (temple the slowest). OK state could have easily made the champ game this year from the fast camp.

LSU could have used the ability to play faster when they got undressed in the championship game.

Playing like Bama/LSU and mimicking their style is great when your out recruiting everyone. Just hand the ball off pound it down their throats and throw out a great defense. That party ended in 2008 for the Dukes until further notice.
