Where is your hardware???
It amazes me sometimes that Mickey can tolerate the administration and stay at JMU.
I think he stays because of many of us on these boards and JMU in general.
I guess you can't get intercepted if you never bother to pass. That's a great mentality to take. haha
Sometimes I think you do. It depends on your team. You play to your strengths. If you have a really good defense, you don't go for it on certain 4th downs or put your QB in a long passing situation. You let them win the game for you.
It also depends on matchups. Do you have a tackle who you know is going to plow his assignment or a receiver who you know can burn a certain corner? If so, maybe you're a little more aggressive. Overall, I think one of the biggest things that the casual football fan overlooks is field position which goes hand in hand with turnovers. I feel like most of the time we kick off we turn the ball over. We let teams start on the 40 way too often. I've never understood that. I understand Mickey being a stickler about turnovers and I understand why. I don't understand letting the opposing team start at damn near mid-field every time you score year after year. If you give up a kickoff return once or twice a year, so what? I'd take that.
Duuuukes,
Not picking a fight at all. However, you just answered your own question. It is all about field position.....we give it up every game all game all the time.
We hang our our hat on "great defense". But, when you give up 1/2 the field four times or more a game...it becomes a challenge!
Bottom line, I am a defensive minded guy. I would rather tear something down than build it when it comes to sports. However, the team that scores the most points always, ...always wins! That is the disconnect with MM an JMU football!
