Default CAA contacted/invited CoC, Davidson, and App. St

Losing VCU and ODU sucked but this is a best case scenario for UNCW if this goes down.

A formal invitation? Doesn't that usually indicate a "done deal" is already in the works and this is just the process to get the signature?

I'd like to think there's a difference between a formal invitation and a formal invitation to discussions. I'm betting the latter is what actually happened, otherwise we would have seen a little more from the national media on this one. Davidson is a college basketball darling to the big media outlets (most notably, ESPN) thanks to Stephen Curry a few years ago.

I really have difficulty believing a "formal invitation" to sign with the CAA was actually submitted.

yes formal invitations are quickly followed by press conferences. BUT at least it appears the CAA is looking the right place to fill the empty membership slots.

I think they get COC and would be surprised if Davidson joins the CAA-AppSt -never happen.

"Never happen" huh Mullet? Those are awful definitive words. I can definitely understand why you're so adament that they won't come to the CAA though, as I'm fairly certain they're looking for a move into a BCS conference for their football program. However, what would stop them joining the CAA and sometime in the near future moving to a BCS conference for football only?

If Appy moved to the CAA for all sports (including football), they could move their football team (football-only) to any FBS league without having to pay any sort of exit fee to the CAA Football conference. There's a waiver for teams moving up to FBS in the CAA Football bylaws. The one million only applies if you move all sports from the CAA to another. Not that it matters in this situation, but I believe the CAA Football exit fee is $250,000 (& again, only applies to schools moving to a non-FBS conference i.e. - Rhode Island).

Unless the CAA buys AppSt in why would they even consider it and i mean pay the exit fee upfront somehow.

Backing off your "never" statement already?

Put on your business suit for a moment. App State has done everything they know how to do to gain an FBS invite, and still haven't gotten one. If their top competitors in the SoCon make the move to the Colonial, they'll find themselves in not only an FCS Conference, but a pretty poor one at that. A move to the CAA puts them in the best FCS conference in the nation, and if they can perform in that environment, they've at least taken another step in the right direction.

Not to mention, the CAA is an improvement in all other sports.

I can easily see App State make the move if they can see it providing them with whatever had been lacking to go FBS. $1 million won't be much of a cost if that is the final outcome. I'm sure they can't help but see ODU having made the move with strong play in the CAA in such a short period of time. Maybe the SoCon is what has held them back.

Or, if ASU ends up relegated to FCS due to the fact that Boone just isn't considered a big enough market for an FBS invite, they at least are participating at the highest level of FCS.

So, I think your "never" statement is pretty bold considering the facts might cause ASU to actually consider leaving. And if it were such a no-brainer "never", why hasn't ASU stepped right out and put an end to this speculation?

You've been bad mouthing the CAA and engaging in a crush on the SoCon for some time now, but it seems there must be some appeal to the CAA you can't grasp. Otherwise the door would have been immediately shut by the schools we've invited...yet it hasn't.

Could the Mullet be SO WRONG...again?
