Speaking words of wisdom, let it be
Hopefully not. Whatever the CAA needs to do with its in-conference schedule (like the Big East does) to maximize the potential for the at-large CAA candidates so that there is never a repeat of the 2011 Drexel snub should be done..even if it means ODU and Drexel play 18 times this year (just kidding, but you get my drift).
Reading the Ga. So. boards as their fans express their unhappiness with their AD over yesterday's comments, a lone App. St. poster had the following to say, and I summarize:
If App. St. is going to be in FCS for any length of time as it pursues the FBS dream, the CAA is the better place to be, for the following reasons:
1) Football national TV
2) Hoops national TV
3) More NCAA $$
4) JMU
5) Ability to put 5 in FCS playoffs as opposed to 3
6) Grow hoops in CAA to make it more attractive to FBS suitors
7) Hate to lose Ga. So. as rival, but...
Pretty persuasive stuff.
I agree with those positives. But there is one negative that may decide the matter for the ASU AD. If they move to the CAA, they are admitting to their fan base that FBS is not going to happen for some time or maybe not at all. After making public thier intentions to go FBS and exciting their fan base, it would be hard to get them pumped for what most will see as a lateral move to the CAA that takes FBS off the table for the forseeable future. The AD might decide its not worth the fan firestorm, despite the benefits.
Also, in addition to losing GSU and Furman as their primary rivals, there will be increased travel costs for all sports. I'd say the chances of ASU moving to the CAA in the coming months are pretty slim (~10%). I'd love to see it though...
It definitely does. Case in point...Georgia Southern...17 pages and counting:

GSU fans can go postal at any moment but the Eagles fanbase is about as good as you'll ever see in the FCS. That thread may reach 50 pages and I'm not exaggerating.
Your have a fine fan base...however, your big problem is TV---no TV market in an area more famous for being below the "gnat" line. Conferences today want television markets and you just don't (and never will) have one.
The status quo, while disappointing, will be less disappointing because staying in the SoCon doesn't rule out a move to the FBS in the near future like a move to the CAA would because of the money it would take to leave the SoCon and then turn around and leave the CAA. A move to the CAA would be a clear and unmistakeable signal that ASU is staying FCS for the foreseeable future.
