REPORT: CAA Formally Invites App State/Davidson/Charleston

Not all ASU alumni and posters disagree with this move, I for one right now think ASU needs to settle into the CAA and eat the moratorium and move on. This would one strengthen ASU's recruiting foot print, two ASU would be in a strong conference, three ASU would be in with like minded schools for the most part. But guys heres the hitch beleive it or not ASU is tied in closely with Georgia Southern, ie rivilary, football tradition and basically same size school. The talks have been that both move into a FBS conference at the same time. If the CAA had also asked GS to come I think the deal would have been sealed as long as ASU / GSU agreed on it. The inside talk now is to let GS finish thier upgrades and then the Sun Belt brings in both ASU and GS by 2014. Since all Conference USA schools except ECU voted no to ASU. Keep in mind this is all speculation. But if the SB is raided watch for this to happen if not ASU could be in the CAA by 2014. The SoCon right now is trying to bully ASU maybe to try and get the ASU admins to show thier hands, and find out what is really going on. ASU is ready to move up, it really is just a matter of time, but when that will happen who knows. But right now I dont think ASU wants to leave GS behind they know a package deal with the Sun Belt is an attractive option foot print wise.

There should be little question that ASU would be much welcomed by the FB playing CAA schools, and that ASU shares much more in common with the publics in the CAA than many of the smaller privates in the SoCon. If leaving GSU behind is really the holdup, I'd include them in the offer to join the CAA.

Lol the more I think of ASU and their nickname/mascot, and adding them to the CAA, the more I think they'd kind of be like our version of those other Mountaineers from the Big East

Based on statements from the CAA commissioner that the CAA expansion would be transparent, it seems that CoC, ASU and Davidson are the only schools to receive invites to date.

I'm wondering if these three schools are enough? If ASU jumps, is that enough for the football side of the CAA or do they need to add others? Obviously three would be enough to satisfy the basketball side of the equation, but it would fall short of offering the opportunity to create North/South divisions.

if true, Charleston would be an absolutely PERFECT fit for the CAA.

An upgrade over ODU in my opinion. Nicer city, better academics, and new media market. And a solid basketball program with loads of tradition to boot. Coaching legends Kresse and Cremmins coached there...would be a slam dunk move for the CAA.
