Default Official Release on Four McGlynn

FOUR MCGLYNN TRANSFERS TO TOWSON FROM VERMONT
Tigers Add 2012 America East Rookie of the Year

TOWSON, Md. – Four McGlynn, who was named as the America East Rookie of the Year while playing at the University of Vermont last season, has committed to transfer to Towson University and play basketball, head coach Pat Skerry announced Wednesday. McGlynn will sit out the 2012-13 season per the NCAA transfer rule and he will have three seasons of eligibility remaining to play for the Tigers.

“We’re ecstatic about getting Four,” said Skerry. “We think he is potentially one of the premier shooters in the country. He’s the kind of kid that has impeccable character, is a great student and has a tremendous work ethic. He’s coming from a very good and well-coached program at Vermont that was in the NCAA Tournament last year and he scored a lot of points for them. We’re expecting huge things from him once he becomes eligible.”

McGlynn led Vermont in scoring (12.0 ppg), three-pointers made (68) and free throw percentage (88.9 percent), while playing in all 36 games as a freshman. He also earned a spot on the America East Championship All-Tournament team as he helped the Catamounts win 24 games and the league’s post-season tournament.

A 6-foot-2, 180-pound shooting guard from York, Pa., McGlynn was the only player in the nation to lead his team in scoring without having started a game. He also led all Division I freshmen during the 2011-12 season with his stellar free throw shooting percentage.

McGlynn stepped up his play in conference games, pouring in 12.4 points per contest. A five-time America East Rookie of the Week, McGlynn was deadly from three-point range this past season, sinking 1.9 treys per game and shooting 38.0 percent from deep, the fifth-best clip in the conference.

McGlynn tallied 20 or more points five times this past season, including a season-high 24 points against Stony Brook on February 12. He also tallied 18 points in Vermont’s NCAA Tournament first-round victory against Lamar.

A 2011 Dallastown High School graduate, McGlynn finished his high school career as the school's all-time leading scorer with 1,854 points.

On most teams, a performance like McGlynn's; America East Rookie of the Year, shooting 89% from the line, 68 3pt’rs, etc., etc., would earn a starting spot.....

    Apparently not in Vermont.

McGlynn did play in 36 games for the Catamounts but started 0 games.

Yeah, and I forgot to point (what Mat said already); that he was the leading scorer for the Catamounts.

So 4th most minutes, leading scorer, but not a starter?

It's like Ambrose not starting West but sending him in 5 or 10 minutes into the game.

I don't know if 0 starts was a way to keep a Freshmen ego in check?, a coaching strategy? or what?.

I guess Four didn't buy into it.....
