Heinicke was vastly more impressive than Demarco just from his performance against UMass alone.
    No question about that.
Demarco was a very good athlete, and an especially a good scrambler.
He was an average passing QB, at best, but a great leader.

One thing many don't know; Demarco was not recruited by ODU. He sent Bobby Wilder a letter and I think a video tape, and asked for a tryout as..a punter.

FYI- Today I happened to glance at a copy of USA Today Pre-Season College Football and they have JMU ranked #4.

Army & Air Force I think still also run some version of the TO.

At the I-AA level, in addition to GSU, off the top of my head, Wofford & VMI run versions of it. Citadel recently went away from it....

I think VMI dumped the option for a more pro style attack, but you can add Cal Poly to that list as well.

Negative on Maine's losses this season being nearly as drastic as Nova's last season. Not even close. I live near Villanova so I hear about some up here. I dug up an old post from last yr on what they lost.

Again Nova again heading into last season had lost about 14 of 22 starters. 10 of those lost made 1st-3rd team All CAA, along with several AAs:
-1st team All CAA, consensus AA & 2nd round draft pick LT Ijalana
-Would have been 1st team All CAA and consensus AA if he hadn't gotten injured and missed 1/2 the season WR/RB Szcur
-1st team All CAA, AA LG Clauser
-1st team All CAA, AA LB Kirkland
-1st team All CAA LB Thomas
-1st team All CAA, pre season AA (season ending injury) WR White
-2nd team All CAA QB Whitney
-2nd team All CAA S Maldonado
-3rd team All CAA RB Ball
-3rd team All CAA DT Weaver
-3rd team All CAA S Dempsey
I don't think I've ever seen a CAA team lost as much talent from one season to the next.

Contrast that with Maine. They lose 6 players that made 1st-3rd team All CAA to the 10 for Nova last season. Lost 1 AA player to 4 for Villanova last season:
1st team all CAA & AA safety Jerron McMilliam,
2nd team All CAA QB Warren Smith
2nd team All CAA LB Vincent Givens
2nd Team All CAA S Trevor Coston
3rd team All CAA: RB Pushaun Brown
3rd team All CAA DL Raibonne Charles

Maine according to their game notes with JMU had 9 of 22 as seniors. But they return 5 players who had 1st-2nd team all CAA honors last season compared to last season Nova returning 1 + a couple of 3rd teamers:
1st team All CAA WR Maurice McDonald,
1st team All CAA OL Chris Howley,
2nd team All CAA: TE Justin Perillo
2nd Team All CAA OL Josh Spearin
2nd Team All CAA DL Michael Cole
Contrast that with Villanova last season. I thi.

The ?? for Maine is at QB, where both Smith and the backup (who scored the winning 2 PT conversion against JMU) were seniors. If Maine can come up with decent play at QB they could post a winning record, possibly make the playoffs.

    If I was a betting man I'd wager 6-5.

    You are all offense.

    Maine Defense: 5 key losses.
    DL - Raibonne Charles
    DB - Trevor Coston
    LB - Vinson Givans
    DB - Jerron McMillian
    DL - Kevin Phanor

This is why I think Maine is in trouble.

On a side note connected to NDSU, I read in a tweet from Jay Bil-ass this AM (not a subscriber but it landed in my email somehow) that the NCAA screwed up and sent NDSU's National Championship Banner to North Dakota by mistake. Par for the course. LOL

As far as key loses, I was refering to guys who made all CAA. The last guy you listed I didn't see making All CAA.

Regardless of how well Maine does, their losses pale to what Nova faced last yr.

My contention is that Maine may do no better than Villanova did last year due to key personnel hits. It's not just about the raw numbers.
