I disagree.
Who did they beat OOC that clinched GMU an at-large in '11? Harvard? GMU's resume was based on the CAA, by avoiding bad losses and winning their share of games against the other top CAA schools. Take out VCU and ODU from the schedule, and GMU doesn't even play another NCAA team besides Harvard.
Everyone remembers the win @Wichita State in '06 but few remember the losses to Wake Forest, Creighton, and Miss. St. OOC. GMU again dominated the CAA and swept NCAA team VCU...tell me they make that historic at-large without those wins.
GMU has never won enough OOC games alone to merit at-large selection. They balanced it with beating the top of the CAA. You can't remove multiple top-100 (at-worst) RPI games from the conference schedule and pretend GMU will be fine. GMU/ODU/VCU propped each other up.
