Ramnation got to it before I did. NLI is invalid if student is an NQ or not admitted (I don't know what school wouldn't admit an offered recruit that does qualify, but that's neither here nor there).

Actually just talked to a friend in compliance, Mason could get a waiver, but it gets pretty complicated and short-term. For all intents and purposes the NLI is void.

Actually that happens at some schools. I know Northwestern had a 6'5 Serbian kid Mislav Brzoja committed this year that qualified but was not admitted to the school academically as Northwestern has very high admittance requirements. He has to go elsewhere.

It happens at schools that have very high standards for admission which is why schools like that usually have to target a different set of kids to satisfy their institutions academic entrance requirements and avoid scenarios like the one above.

    Whats the waiver process like?

Devon Saddler signed NLI with UD in the fall of his SR yr. of HS. He went to prep school instead. NLI null and void. UD was very fortunate that Devon signed another NLI the following year which was very fortunate for UD. Devon had offers from The A10, PAC12 and BE.

Frank Mason has ZERO ties to Towson now. Maybe he will resign. Don't have a clue.

But the fact that he wasn't going to qualify was not a secret. I knew this was going to be the case as far back as the CAA tourny. That's when I was told.

Very convoluted but Towson could try to get a waiver from the NCAA (I imagine this is already happening)for initial eligibility. I believe that gives him a few weeks of time on campus to bring up grades before competition, but it's likely a moot point now.

I've seen it go both ways. Quincy Douby broke his NLI to Hofstra, went Prep then signed with Rutgers the following season.

Maybe Mason will be one of those guys that sees loyalty for Skerry offering him, when I'm sure bigger programs wouldn't touch him. Best thing would be for Towson to play well and then try and re-recruit him next year. Upside would be 4 years of eligibility for Frank in the new arena.

My education sucked in the Petersburg school system, but I was also smart enough to know that it'd be completely different at the next level. Some of the best athletes in the city never make it out because the area focuses more on what they can do on the court as opposed to the classroom. I enjoy telling people where I'm from because there is usually a genuine look of shock, but I wish I didn't have to emphasize my upbringing to illustrate a point to my colleagues and grad school classmates.
Your team is gay. I should know, I'm an expert.

Frank Mason scored 50 points on 16-21 shooting in the Richmond 804 all-star game yesterday. He's definitely going to get some looks at a higher level. He has some character issues that will scare some away, but there will be programs that overlook that to get a guy with his scoring ability. Towson was not in a position to be picky when it came to a guy who can score the ball like Mason can, and they won't be the only one.

Skerry will have a war on his hands to keep him committed to Towson, but if he does come, you guys would probably be getting the best scorer from the Richmond area since Tyrese Rice at Boston College.

If Towson athletic dept is going to be involved with threads on here, please be sure to have someone that knows their stuff. Damion lee was signed and went prep and suited up for Drexel the very next year. It's embarrassing to have people from the dept trying to call out others when they are the one with wrong info.

Actually, Damion Lee was given a release by the new Towson coaching staff which allowed him to play for Drexel. This was an extraordinary move as it involved a transfer within the CAA, which carries additional NLI baggage as there is an inter-CAA transfer rule over and above that of the NCAA regulation. Lee had committed to the previous coaching staff and after his prep year wanted to go to another school. Towson obliged and took the high road, allowing the Calvert Hall graduate to play at DU. This, TigerNat1on, is a fact.
