That seems like negligible exposure to the city for a Class A team, IMO. I’m not against it; like I said, I haven’t researched the proposal, but if you’re in the Outer Banks, you’re still likely to head to Norfolk than head all the way down to Wilmington for a ball game. If you’re above 64 you’re not making that trip for Class A baseball. If you’re from G’vegas and you’re dying to see minor league baseball, are you going to drive 2+ hours to Wilmington or less an hour to Five County Stadium? South has the Pelicans.
I think it is impressive that the Braves are willing to sign a 20 year deal with Wilmington if they get a new park and I love minor league baseball. Perhaps the new stadium could attract college tournaments. ACC tournament has been held in Durham and G’boro, Wilmington may be able to jump in there too.
Where would they put the park? I like what Durham, G’boro, and Winston Salem have done. Any chance they could find a location near downtown?
