    Default 2012 CAA Payout

    Sharing the wealth?

Following George Mason's remarkable march to the 2006 Final Four, veteran CAA commissioner Tom Yeager implemented an excellence pool. The league's athletic directors were in full support, according to Hofstra's Jack Hayes, who served on the committee that created the formula. Their goal was to create financial incentive for the league's programs to invest any money received from the NCAA Tournament pool back into their basketball programs. And because Mason generated a windfall, the timing was perfect.
Five years later, the commissioner is pleased with the plan.
“The results speak for themselves,” Yeager said recently. “This is the first step.”
    School Payout
    VCU $796,000
    George Mason $778,000
    Old Dominion $402,000
    Drexel $236,000
    Hofstra $236,000
    James Madison $236,000
    Delaware $193,000
    Georgia State $193,000
    Northeastern $193,000
    Towson $193,000
    UNCW $193,000
    William & Mary $193,000

Seems about right (though I AM surprised there's such a gap between us and ODU).

It's the last year of our Final Four money. It won't be that big of a difference next year unless Mason goes on another deep run.

Hey 6 Wins in the tournament for the CAA is not too shabby. Glad the coin is starting to roll in the door.

Towson and Georgia State are getting away with robbery. Why should either school receive even a $1 in revenue?

You forgot UNCW, DEL, NE & W&M. Prejudices showing through. GSU was 9th with both Northeastern and W&M below them.

Actually, CAAHoops has a slightly different estimate of the payouts, but if you look at how they dole out the excellence pool money and what payments everyone will get this year and next, it shows that Delaware is the ONLY school not getting a single bit of extra $ since the program started in 2006. Something for us Hens fans to be proud of, I guess

FWIW, I can't figure out how GSU or Towson ever actually earned any excellence money. I guess it depends on whether DivII games are counted in the "above .500 OOC record" portion of the shares. If they are counted, that's stupid, since they don't help the conference RPI at all.

    1. Delaware, William & Mary, and Northeastern bring strong academics to the conference.
    2. UNC-W brings a decent basketball history to the conference.

What does Towson & Georgia State bring to the conference?
