Nine NCAA Tournament wins. Big game performance after big game performance. All three times she went to the NCAA Tournament, she took the team further than their seed said they should go, with multiple wins over ranked teams, and whether it be 12 innings at Arizona as a freshman, nine innings at USF in 100 degree heat in the Supers, or the shutout today to force the if game, she always left it out there in losses until she wriggled every pitch she possibly could out of her right arm. We could rattle off all of her stats and awards, but beyond that, when the chips were down and the pressure was on, she rose to the occasion better than anyone before her. Hofstra has huge strengths but the weaknesses I was surpised about:
Hofstra has $179 million of debt including the $70M issue in June.

Hofstra relies 82% on tuition and fees. Hofstra's position in the NY and Northeast markets is weak - only 12% of accepted students enroll. Hofstra ranks well below fundraising when compared to its peers.

I do not see how athletics will expand or leave the CAA.

Hofstra is selling $70M worth of bonds in June 2013 which will be highly rated debt. Coupled with the endowment of a little over $300M, leaving the CAA is an option but an expensive one. The A-10 schools for example have stronger balance sheets and endowments. And since we are private, the state heavy CAA schools gets tax dollars.

Tremendous win by Hofstra over JMU yesterday in CAA semifinals. They limited CAA's top offensive team to four goals and only one in the second half! Tough test against Towson tomorrow.
