Not sure where the CAA can actually improve itself now that Davidson is off the board. Elon went 21-12 this past season but if you asked someone in Boston or Long Island where Elon was the answer would probably be France, not piedmont of NC. Stony Brook would be the best catch but Hofstra is dead set against adding their Long Island mate. Albany has been strong in the America East but that is a pretty bad league which was two slots behind the very down CAA last year and one behind the Patriot. Looks like the CAA is a one bid league for the forseeable future as only James Madison seems to have anything going for them for 2013-14. Charleston was hit hard by graduation and transfers so this is a JMU league for the next few years, just like it used to be with VCU, Mason and ODU.

http://www.cbssports.com/collegebask...re-final-fours

Beginning in 2014, CBS Sports and Turner Sports will split and rotate coverage of the Final Four and national championship games, the networks announced Tuesday morning.

In 2014 and 2015, TBS will televise the two national semifinal games, while CBS will broadcast the national championship game. Moreover, the two networks will also begin splitting the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight games.

The rotation will start in 2016, when TBS will broadcast the national championship game. CBS broadcasts the game in 2017.

“From the beginning, our partnership with Turner Sports has exceeded every one of our expectations,” said Sean McManus, chairman, CBS Sports. “Today's news represents another win-win arrangement that continues to help us extend the reach of this marquee property by combining the resources of our two organizations. As we have done since 1982, CBS is pleased to showcase the National Championship game in 2014 and 2015.”

“Since the inception of our partnership, I don't think we could have envisioned such a seamless collaboration between our two companies both in front of and behind the cameras,” added David Levy, president of sales, distribution and sports, Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. “Coming off another incredible year of strong ratings and exciting games, the popularity of the NCAA Tournament and Final Four continues to resonate with fans across the country. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to televise the Final Four national semifinal games and two of the Elite Eight games on TBS beginning next year, and for the network to televise its first National Championship game in 2016.”

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports...dness/2133455/

College basketball's offseason just got two weeks shorter.

The NCAA announced Friday afternoon that a proposal for men's teams to start practicing six weeks before their first regular-season games has been approved and will take effect this fall. The proposal was finalized at the end of the NCAA Division I Board of Directors meeting Thursday.

In the past, men's basketball teams were allotted 30 days of practice in the four weeks before their first games. Spreading 30 days of practice over an expanded time frame of 42 days allows for more flexibility in preseason practice schedules, and it also allows for teams' first practices to be on a Friday, meaning that Midnight Madness season tip-off events can take place on weekends.

The NCAA also eliminated the requirement that teams' first practice begins no earlier than 5 p.m. This opens up the possibility of events actually occurring -- as their names would indicate -- at midnight, as they have in the past on the first day of the season.

The 2013-14 season opens on Nov. 8, so that means teams will be allowed to begin practicing on Sept. 27.

Heard through the grapevine that Elon is a lock for the CAA's 10th team and that it will be announced in the next few weeks. Albany is also a likely full time member to be added for the 2014-15 school year. The CAA will not add Stony Brook as Hofstra has put the full court block on the other LI school. This will leave the CAA at 11 teams if there are no more departures. James Madison is rumored to be on the way out of the CAA as soon as 2014-15 and headed to CUSA. This would take the CAA back to a round number of 10 teams which is where this could possibly settle. No other schools are being discussed as there is no agreement on other possible schools.
