CLARK NAMED TO ALL-REGIONAL TEAM

HEMPSTEAD, NY - Sophomore Adrienne Clark (Gibsonton, FL/Riverview High School - pictured) became the first Hofstra Softball player ever named to the all-tournament team at an NCAA Regional when she was chosen to the All-Regional team following the Pride's NCAA Tournament appearance in Lincoln, Nebraska from May 15-17.

Clark threw 14.2 innings of shutout softball in helping the Pride to a 2-2 record at the regional. She threw 2.2 innings of one-hit relief to pick up the save as Hofstra shocked 11th-ranked Nebraska 3-1 on the opening day of the regional on Thursday, May 15. She then came back the next day and threw a two-hit, nine-inning shutout in the Pride's 1-0 win over Creighton, taking a no-hitter into the seventh inning. She capped off her weekend by throwing three shutout innings in relief as the Pride was eliminated by Nebraska 6-0. Due largely to Clark's pitching, Hofstra advanced further in the NCAA Tournament than it ever had before in six all-time appearances.

The win over Creighton at the NCAA's was also Clark's 11th in a row in the circle, improving her record to 12-2 on the season. That tied a school record for consecutive pitching victories, held by Stacy Jackson (1993) and Alicia Smith (2000).

The strong postseason pitching performance continued a remarkable success story for Clark, who was not recruited to be a pitcher for Hofstra, and did not pitch at all during fall practice her freshman season. However, she ended up seeing action in eight games in the circle last year due to injuries to other members of the Hofstra pitching staff. She ended up with a 1-0 record and a 0.00 earned run average in those games, including two appearances against eventual national champion California in which she did not allow a run in three innings of work.

In her career, Clark has pitched in six games against nationally-ranked teams for a combined 15 innings of work. In those 15 innings, she has not allowed an earned run and has yielded only 10 hits. In addition to her two games against California last season and two with Nebraska this season, she also shut out Washington without a hit for two innings and allowed just one unearned run in 4.1 innings against Notre Dame this spring.

Clark played four years of softball, volleyball and basketball and ran track for one season at Riverview High School. She helped her team to a 2000 Florida championship in softball, and was a first-team All-Western Conference selection.

congrats! that's a great honor

and only a sophmore....

it's amazing what our pitching staff accomplished this yr and how good they turned out to be considering how the staff was put together - pretty much "cut and paste"!

Next years team should be fine. If the freshmen (freshwomen) are as good as advertized, we should bag the CAA and a NCAA berth again. The WINNING CONTINUES!
