View Full Version : ODU/ECU Pissing Thread

ODU finished tied for third in the CAA this year, and my guess is they move up next season (barring injury), so no CIT, CBI, CBS, CNBC or any other half assed tourney.
That said, I'd lay low as a fan of ECU hoops, until they accomplish something. That last post of your's shows how little ECU HAS accomplished. When you're bragging is limited to regular season games that no one can remember, against mid major foes, I'd leave it alone.

Hey, under Mack McCarthy, any road win is a Huge Win.
 Well I guess we don't have to worry about our coach leaving  & as long as Mack takes us from single digit wins the previous year before he took over to 21 wins by year 4 when he resigned like he did VCU I'll be more than happy with that & I really don't care where he wins them home or on the road. Something like the Sweet 16 he took UTC to would just be gravey.

Funny thing is even harden VCU Mack haters admited he outcoached Grant last year even with Maynor having about 40 points. Without Maynor or Grant that upcoming VCU game in Richmond is one on the road I expect we win returning guys like Young & Abrams who you wanted & wish you had at this point. Good luck to VCU rebuilding as well as UNCW.

ECU's program and VCU's program are not comparable on any planet. Yes, you beat us...and happened to be one of our worst losses this year. If that's the kind of program you are proud of, have fun with that.

Yeah, yeah, the UNCW example shows just how quick things can turn with one bad hire, & likewise they can turn the other way as well with a good one. You've got your own issues to worry about right now so you don't end up like UNCW.

I was only talking about the disaster going down @ UNCW until blowme & the opera singer decided to chip in. The word i've heard is we are playing ODU next year at home, so blowme will get to see where we stack up these days. ODU replaces UNCW who we are done playing while Fields is there. Hey I wish we played them though, he's used to losing & I would love to give him a couple more, but I'm sure some other teams will give him plenty for us the next couple years the way things are going down there.

I understand ODU is looking to upgrade their OOC schedule this year, as we're expected to be pretty good, and make a run at another At Large bid, if necessary. I seriously doubt we'd want to pick up a 200+ RPI team like ECU.
That said, if we do, it'll be nice to throw another easy W on the record.

That sounds familiar to what the last couple CAA champs Mason & VCU fans said prior to the games the last couple years. Our key players were just underclassmen those years but have shown they had some talent. I think they'll be a lot more consistant this season so I'll bet you right now we aren't a 200+ RPI team this season if you care to wager, probably why your coaches are playing us if what you say is true about upgrading. Plus lets remember, you have had little success vs CUSA teams these days, even mid level ones like Marshall.

ODU is an extremely young team this year, everyone expected early season struggles. By the end of the year, we were as good as any team in the CAA. We lose one part time starting senior, that's it.
AS for betting on ECU RPI, with 200 being the cutoff, I don't know much about sub standard, irrelevent teams. Perhaps your team will excel, exploding into the top 200 rpi, perhaps they won't. I'm guessing you'll be crowing all off season next year if they work into that 198-199 range.
Until that happens, leave the basketball talk to the grownups.

It really is funny that EZU left the CAA in 2001 to go to C-USA and move onto bigger and better things. Yet all you do is hang your hat on wins over CAA teams still.

I would think we're grown up enough to be qualified to talk about the current state of UNCW's program, which is what I was doing until you wanted some attention. It's cool though. I'm going to remember this when you want to come over to the smack board & talk about our football like you did last September when you didn't even have a team. I might even humor myself with your start up peewee one this year that does infact play on a lower level. Last I check though your grown up basketball schools aren't exactly bringing us for gureentee games. I also don't know of a lot of schools like Wake, Clemson, Memphis & NC State coming to play at your place like they have the last couple years here & will the next couple as well. Good luck upgrading your schedule.

What is it you guys call this? The "tard and switch"? I figured your half assed football program would come up.
It's the middle of the NCAA tourney, and you have to bring up football. Hilarious.

Nahh, I was just pointing out how comfortable in your hypocrisy you are, & providing a great example. Actually though it is spring football time, & we have a spring football game coming up that will have enough interest to double or triple what your basketball arena even holds. That "half assed" program spend it's 50 something week in the polls in the big boy sport this year & more weeks in the top 25 just this past season than your entire basketball program ever has. FTR it's not like you have any more to talk about during the tourny than we do at this time. At least CUSA still has a team alive. We can get back to the UNCW/sky is falling thread if you are done.

Having been though this recently part of me even feels a little bad for you, but then I remember how you guys danced on our grave. What goes around comes around.

"Dancing on your grave" would imply that we came over to the Boneyard just to rub it in your faces. But no, that's an ECU fan's job, to come over to THIS board and join in on a thread that has nothing to do with you, to dance on OUR grave and then turn it into an ODU/ECU pissing match.

F*** you.

Blah, blah. First I didn't turn anything into anything, you need to have that talk with the others becasue I was on topic & perfectly happy with watching you guys meltdown, & even tried to steer it back to that fun entertainment.

Second I don't post on your little UNCW board bud since the new board went up, & only ever did because there was a 10 page thread about ECU before I ever surfed onto your board. I post on a General board & a Smack board of a conference we used to be in that has 3 or 4 teams we play every year in several sports, just like beating you for like the 10th time in a row in baseball just 2 days ago.

I also never recall having started a thread on any of these boards & 95% of my post are in response to garbage about ECU, & even this one an ECU angle was mentioned with Fields, basically saving your program ( ). I just posted what kind of a teamate & influence on the team he will be according to others close up said he was.

The only reason I am here is I've seen plenty of threads started about ECU on your board, the general board, & more recently the smack board when it was created, about our previous tough times with transfers, APR, & losing etc & taking great joy in it. You guys were doing this LONG before I came around. Like I said what goes around comes around. Enjoy it, I know I am.

Far be it from me to keep you from having your fun, have at it.

I just have zero respect for someone who comes over here to do it. You never saw me or any respectable UNCW fan going over to your board to rub anything in your faces. We just don't care enough about ECU to do that. This is our board, and we can deliver smack towards ECU whenever we wish, ESPECIALLY when so many of you infiltrate our board to pound your chests over a win over one of us. Our smack talk is CLEARLY different from yours.

You can say "we just left the CAA and still play you guys", and use that as a reason why you still come here. My take is that you haven't moved on yet. Fact is, you are no longer in the CAA, and have little reason to be here. Your current conference is SUPPOSED to be superior, and you have no reason to come here to taunt the "lesser" programs. Its like you're trying to have your cake and eat it too.

You can talk melt down all day and it doesn't matter because UNCW will be okay in the end. Yes, we were all very dissapointed in seeing them leave. Both of them had gifted games that could drive the ball and finish nicely and both couldn't shoot the ball either but that still doesn't take away from their potential greatness as they can develop their shots to a degree. Regardless, if the guys are homesick and not supportive, it's not a good situation.

UNCW didn't have ANY post prescence last year and that is why they got dominated by anybody with any post game...especially a team like ODU. We need to wait and see what comes out of all of this to see what is really up cause you never know. It's about who suits up and in UNCW's case-size. It's finally back so we can get back to playing ball at least. We won't have the 2 finishers coming off the bench (part/most of the problem) that we thought we would have but they will at least be competive now, if not more. We were completely overmatched every night in the paint and I don't wish that on any fan base...it sucked!!

I've seen Fields play a lot, & he is the key addition that you are banking on to deliver the most improvement. I agree you guys probably do improve next year. I say you probably win around 12 games or so & Moss will likely get a vote of confidence for the improvement & survive which is probably the worst thing for your program.

The problem is 2 years from now you have to replace some of your better players in Wolf & Downey & some key role players & probably don't improve a whole lot more for the following season. Why? because every high school Sr out there sees what's going on at UNCW & knows at this point Moss's future is iffy. I think recruiting for you is going to be pretty rough the next couple years with other coaches in these kids ears that he might not be there all their 4 years. Plus he is getting a couple of JUCO's that's a big SR class 2 years from now where PT is an issue you can't sell as well.

I could see you winning about 12 games next year & maybe 14 or 15 the year after but considering what you lose 2 years from now, probably not recruiting well the next couple, & the fans probably being restless, I doubt Moss last but for 2 more years. At that point it's ground zero for whoever you get with what you'll have left, even if he survives for 3 years out it's ground zero for him & I doubt he last past it. You would be better cutting ties right now than dragging this thing out.

And what would that accomplish? Our new recruits Wilson and Rendleman would get out of their commitments, and Will O'Hauregbe might just transfer and sacrifice the freshman year he didn't have. That leaves us with, at most, 9 players (Brad Bald and Jayson Aycock's status are unknown)....in April....with a brand new coach trying to piece something together via the JUCO route (the same thing Moss is doing now, but WITH Wilson, Rendleman and O'Hauregbe).

If Moss is truly mediocre, so be it. But this is program on its 3rd AD in 5 years....stability is, unfortunately, something MORE important. If we fire Moss and pay the large amount to buy him out, it would be an even worse disaster than what you're describing.

Heywood, ODU will not get another at-large bid in your life time.

And George Mason will? I guarantee we have a better shot at getting an at-large next year than you do considering we lose 1 guy and you lose 3 crucial starters (Vaughan, Smith and Monroe were the heart and soul of your team).

At least you keep your coach though.

Wilson is a project that averaged 6 points & 4 rebounds in high school last stats I saw, OHauregbe wasn't even a starter on his prep squad, & Rendleman wasn't even on the radar. Maybe they have potential & pan out, but they are all probably realistically several years away from helping you, & Moss will probably be gone at that point. They could just as easily transfer then as well. They aren't so good a good coach couldn't come in and find something equivalent even this spring IMO. I sure wouldn't use them as an excuse to hold up a change. Good luck to Moss getting any other quality high school players at this point though.

He cracked double digits this year in his 2nd Sr year. Good for him. He's near 7 foot & he's got to be one of the oldest guys on the court since this was his 2nd Sr year (reclassified last year). Kind of should don't you think? Nothing against the guy, but I see your fans expecting a lot early. Probably need to be more realistic cause I don't think you should expect him to save Moss & wouldn't make program choices to keep him.
