uninformed, biased, ignorant opinion in this hiring can be summed up in one "word"....
meh.
I am not swayed either way. Honestly though, no matter who they hired, whether it be Joe Schmoe, John Wooden, or the Queen of England I was planning on taking a wait-and-see approach. This team is a train wreck, lets face it. It is in a better position than it was 4 years ago, but not by much. The new coach, no matter who it was going to be is going to have their hands full. My personal criteria for the new coach was as followed:
1) Head coaching experience, winning record. Check
2) Been a part of a winning program and studied under a great coach. Check(St Joes)
3) As a head coach won a post season game. Check
4) Won the respective conference tournament. No
5) Can recruit. TBD, leaning towards check
6) Can develop players. From what I hear, check to guards, no to big guys
7) Still fairly young, up and comer. Check-plus (I did not want an older, retread personally)
8) No connection what-so-ever to the Dillard/Keener eras, nor to the administration. Check
Matt Brady has a lot of the criteria I was looking for. Not a splash, but I wasnt expecting one to be honest. I think this is a good, solid, safe hire. I say "safe" not as a bad thing, but as he has shown he can win a lot of games and will continue that here. Am I confident he can put us into the top 4/5 consistently? No, but I would say there is a 80% probability he does. Then he will move on to a Big East/ACC school and we will be in a position to hire another really good coach. While I grade this hire as a B, it is better than the F's JMU has been receiving the past 8 years.
Just my 2 cents...
and yes, my opinion does deserve its own thread
