Envision an ODU-NU final in the CAA tournament. We know that ODU would surely have more fans there due to the tournament's proximity to Norfolk, but who would have more fans in their corner?

With ODU being the heavy favorite going into the season, would the fans for the eliminated teams be inclined to root for the underdog. Or would the neutral fans feel odd about having a newcomer winning the tournament in their inaugural season?

I'm not asking who would win the game based on talent. Who in your mind would have the advantage in terms of the crowd support?

For me it depends on the guarentee of going to the tourney for the other. If ODU is a lock, I'm pulling for Northeastern. Or vice versa. If neither are that good and we are at the 1 bid deal, which ever looks to have a better chance of winning. Right now, I'd go with pulling for ODU.

Given what's being said on this board, it looks like NU would have to ship down a few thousand red tshirts for y'all to wear while we played the Monarchs.

If ODU has a good enough record and is pretty much assured of an AutoBid, for the league as a whole it may be BETTER to have NU (or Hofstra, etc.) to win so the 'dogs may get more support.

I'll be at the Final regardless, so I'll sell my services to the fans who buy me the most beer before the game and get me a hat/t-shirt from their school.

I'd be rooting for VCU. 8)

Nobody will show up to a game on a Monday night to root for a team they have no real interest in....

It depends on how good ODU is throughout the year. If we are a top 25 team and being covered heavily in the local media as well as some in the national media, bringing 8,000 fans isn't out of the question. If we have more than 6 losses and fly in more under the radar and there is little hype, maybe the 4,000 we brought last year. I would expect other teams to be anti-ODU for the chance of being a 2-bid conference.

i don't know paulie, given the preseason hype there's not much chance of odu coming in under the radar. i'm guessing 6000-8000 odu fans at the title game, assuming we're there

FWIW to any doubters of NU, it is far more likely IMO that NU maks a run in the tournament then say, finishing 2nd in the CAA reg season. I still think the latter CAN happen, but NU is going to get better as the season goes on.

Im waiting for a NU/Hofstra final to make some of these people realize that without a local team having home court, the attendance in Richmond will not be so hot.

CAA final with any VA team in it -- attendance will be good.

CAA final with Hofstra in it, even if it is in Philly -- attendance will not be good.

The southern teams draw better than the northern ones. And that's a fact.

Since VCU has been in the CAA I've been to EVERY Tournament game. Before we got in the league I went a lot as well.

Just think about a GSU vs. DU final. Don't know how many GSU could get up here, but the DAC Pack usually looks pretty lonely in their endzone.

There are several other combinations that could spell disaster for attendance.

Well as long as ODU or VCU is in it, attendance will be fine. I don't see that changing in the next 10 years. At least one of the two will make it.

within 10 years Mason will be in the Big East. You all can have the CAA.

Is that right after Cincinnati, Connecticut. DePaul, Georgetown, Louisville, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh. Providence, Rutgers, Seton Hall, South Florida, St. John's, Syracuse, Villanova, and West Virginia leave for other conferences?

NU could possible make the CAA final. That Barea kid is for real. Then again I don't think they can beat Norfolk Tech in the final.

This season has started off with much hatred between Mason and Norfolk Tech fans. Ya gotta love it!!

Wow, I think that's really nice that 'Cuse went through the trouble to schedule a "homecoming" game for Gerry McNamara.

15. Syracuse vs. Towson at Wilkes-Barre, Pa., Dec. 27: Syracuse scheduled this game as a homecoming for senior Gerry McNamara of nearby Scranton, Pa. The Wachovia Arena holds 8,143, all of whom will be rooting for G-Mac.
