View Full Version : Flint Rumors
FLINT ON THE MOVE? - Calipari's former assistant Bruiser Flint's name has been batted around as well. Just two years after getting fired as the head coach at UMass, Flint has rebuilt Drexel into a Colonial Athletic Association contender.
He was mentioned as a possibility at Penn State and recently at Dayton, where he and the university president have ties from Flint's playing days at St. Joe's.
The Doylestown Intelligencer reported a rumor that Flint might be offered a job as John Chaney's top assistant at Temple and would become the head coach when Chaney retired.
Chaney will be hiring an assistant because Nate Blackwell, who was once thought to be Chaney's likely successor, was suspended at the end of the season and is not expected back.
Still, the Flint scenario is particularly ridiculous because he'd be unlikely to take the cut in pay that would go with becoming an assistant again. Plus, the one thing Flint learned the hard way is how difficult it is to replace a legend.

You're right about that. Although Flint would love to be the coach at Temple, he would not want to be an assistant first. Plus, he'd lose his whole crew he's been with for like forever.

after talking to some people, it seems the only place bruiser will go is up, an assistant role at TU is a lateral move, head coach at dayton, however is a step up

Another open position gets filled, good news for Drexel.
If Flint leaves, there is no way Drexel could replace him and get the same amount of support from the fans as when Flint replaced "censored". Let's just hope he likes his niche here.

Yeah, I sure hope that he does like it hear. Maybe the new arena will entice him to stay here for awhile. It surely can't hurt the recruiting aspect of things.
Speaking of the new arena..what do you think?

That's the PEAC, as seen from 33rd and Market. Where the hell did you find that!
Yup. Its the original design of the PEAC from the mid 60s. Here is 33rd and Market. http://www.library.drexel.edu/services/archives/campus_map/images/33rd_market.jpg
I just happened to stumble across these archives. Check on the Triangle from 1926 via the URL below (pdf file). There is a basketball article about St Joe's coming to our gym after our 'wonderful victory' over Seton Hall. Ah, the good ole days.

I don't know about the icon Herbie. You've got Kevin Young scrolling through there. That is just terrible. 8)
Ramirez and Giles need to get their asses in gear soon. The positive thing though is that they are 6-3 without Giles and A-Ram doing much of anything:)

Actually, Ken, all of the people in the artists rendering are Timer. Word is that he scraped up enough money to marry Mrs. Timer by posing for artists renderings.

We don't even want to go there with this, it is not a pretty picture. :D
just an outsiders point of view...
I don't care what anyone else says, but you all got very lucky to get someone like Coach Flint. He is and will be a great coach. But the problem with that is that I see him moving on after he has some success.
It worked out for both parties pretty well...he needed a job when you had one to offer.
He will leave the drexel hoops team in great shape when and if he leaves.

interesting rob, your comments are contrary to what some people think about bru
"He will leave the drexel hoops team in great shape when and if he leaves"
some say he left Umass in so much turmoil, that they are still trying to get out from his mess.

Oh sure.....every old picture and I know something about it.... The fact that I DO remember when Lancaster intersected with Market.... Kelly's stood where the Newman Center is.... The PTC power station instead of Hagerty....hell. when Wild Bill was DU President... Woodland Avenue instead of the Quad.....
As far as earning the extra money by posing.....I had to earn a better income....I WAS a Drexel employee after all.....

I really enjoyed the photo shoots you did for The Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits, very classy indeed. Do you still have your old leather helmet from the football days? :D

Lack of helmets, yep, that explains it all. How does your buddy Dan Baker feel about the new stadium?, is he getting juiced?

In his usual understated way, he mentioned that he hadn't been asked yet to continue his PA duties in the new park..... That was a few weeks ago, so things may have changed since.

I would start a protest outside the gates of the Linc if Dan Baker wasn't announcing at the new stadiums.
He is one of the most genuine and dedicated people in the business, having been commisioner of the Big 5, announcing at the Vet, the voice of many Big 5 teams for years, and even working for Drexel. I could say my life at Drexel is better off having met him.
Once I met Dan at a Drexel basketball event last winter. Me and a group of people (before the DAC Pack) were sitting at the table, when I casually mentioned that Mr. Baker was the announcer at the Phillies games. When they mentioned how pumped they were about the Phils (this was in March, during spring training). Anyway, I talked to Dan and he was nice enough to do the introduction to Bobby Abreu in front of a group of Drexel students. Class guy.
Anyway, I'm hopping off of my soapbox now. At least until I finally meet Harry Kalas, whenever that happens.

I remember him coming up to the table and doing that. I ws there with 2 of my roommates. Dan is a class act. Everytime I see him he says hello and stops to talk. It would be a shame if wasn't involved.

So the origins of the DAC Pack resided at the one table at the time.
I remember not having any money to buy a coke (despite the sign that said free food, fountain drinks were still being charged). Looks like I owe hardcore or one of his roommates a few bucks

Oh, I think it's safe to say that Dan will be at the new park. I think there'd a be a serious uprising if he wasn't. I agree...a classy guy and a nice one on top of it.

I can't afford to pay Drexel's tuition once...
I'll let you get some Jack in your coke for interest.
